Maine's composite industry is comprised of small and mid-sized shops proud to deliver innovative, high-quality, cutting-edge design and manufacturing services for the marine, automotive, aerospace, architecture and industrial industries in Maine, as well as for businesses throughout the United States and around the world.
The demand for workers in the composites industry is increasing rapidly. And Maine is leading the world in composites research and development, as well as innovative training.
Composites have traditionally been used in Maine's boat building sector, the state's third largest industry. With over 2,500 employed in Maine boat building, demand has been high for workers trained in the latest composite technology.
Now composites are moving into new emerging industries such as aerospace, renewable energy and transportation infrastructure. And Maine is a leader in composites R&D and composites training. With educational facilities such as the University of Maine's Advanced Structures and Composites Center, the Maine Advanced Technology Center (SMCC), the Boat School at Husson, and the Landing School, Maine is a hub for composite technology and training.
